What is Call for Scores?
For our last two seasons, Summer at The Hidden Cafe’s string orchestra has premiered works by young composers from California. We are open for applications for our upcoming concert series happening in Summer 2024!
Eligibility:
- The composer must be between the ages of 18-29 when they apply
- Composers who identify with BIPOC or LGBTQ+ are encouraged to apply
- Work must be between 5-7 minutes long
- Instrumentation for standard string orchestra (only acoustic), minimum 4-4-4-4-2, ideally 8-8-6-4-2 (per person), no more than 2 divisi per part.
Selected Composer will receive…
- Compensation of $250
- Premiere of the piece in June 2024, composers are highly encouraged to be in attendance for rehearsal and concert

How to submit:
- Submit through google form with a short bio including past works (500 word max), PDF of score, sound file, and program notes about the work.
- 1 piece per composer
- No fee!
